Currently, Mr. Ortz directs the Marching, Symphonic and Jazz Bands, teaches Instrumental Methods, Secondary Methods, and Instrumental Conducting courses.
Mr. Ortz is an internationally commissioned composer whose works have been performed worldwide, including in the United States, Europe, South America, South Africa, and Australia.
As a trumpet performer, Mr. Ortz has appeared with numerous professional and honors ensembles, including the American Wind Symphony Orchestra (featured performer, 2015), the Quaker City Band (guest soloist), and the CBDNA and PMEA Intercollegiate Bands, where he served as Principal Trumpet. He has also performed with notable regional groups, such as the Butchy Big Band, Slope Street Jazz, the Noir Easter Quartet, the Youngstown Brass, and the Northwest Passage Trumpet Trio.

The marching band has a long history, spanning several decades, and is featured at many events, both on and off campus. The band performs at all home football games as well as band festivals and parades. Students of all majors are welcome to participate and join the band.
The Geneva College Golden Tornado Marching Band is composed of instrumentalists and band front squads, including majorettes, color guards, and drill team.
